TSW review the vocabulary words on p. 329, discuss them, and divide them into categories by meaning, create headings for each grouping, and post them.
TSW observe the map of the 9 major plates and create a graphic organizer that matches them to their continental/oceanic counterparts.

TSW watch a BrainPop on continental drift and take the related quiz.  TSW read pp. 330 – 333 on plate tectonics/continental drift and complete workbook pp. 91 – 92.

Wednesday

TSW differentiate between divergent, convergent, and transform boundaries.  TSW go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/tryit/tectonics/ to view each type of boundary and the movement that causes it.  TSW complete a graphic organizer to name each type, identify both the cause and the effect, and illustrate what is happening.

TSW recognize that the earth is divided into lines of latitude and longitude and that divide the earth and that there are also time zones due to the rotation of the earth. Read pp. 321 – 323 and workbook pp. 89 – 90

Using a globe and a light bulb, TSW observe how the rotation and tilt of the earth affect the seasons. TSW record observations in their lab notebooks, p. 324

TSW read 21-1 Spaceship Earth and 21.2 Features of the Earth (pp. 314 – 317. TSW recognize that the solar system consists of the sun and all objects that revolve around it. TSW also learn that Earth is covered mostly by water and the land is divided into 7 continents.

TSW create vocabulary cards.

TSW read about the layers of the Earth on pp. 318. TSW be able to draw, color, and label a cross-section of the earth.

Wednesday
Daily Science Review–Life Cycles
TSW recognize that the earth rotates every 24 hours to and away from the sun and that this movement causes day and night. Textbook, p. 319 and www.edhelper.com (reading comprehension). Using globes and flashlights, TSW simulate the rotation of the earth in relation to the sun. Given a location that is experiencing daytime, TSW be able to name a place that is experiencing nighttime and vice versa. (record in lab books)

Daily Science Review–Life Cycles
TSW be able to determine seasons based on the tilt and position in orbit of the earth. Textbook, p. 320 and TSW draw, label, and color the model on p. 320.
